Normal: "Guards its nest in the caverns under the coral basin, though a Mamo egg has never been observed hatching."

Extinct: "It lived in the caverns under the coral basin, guarding an egg that would never hatch. It has disappeared in the wild."

Statistics[]

The Mamo is a Large fish with a long beige body and a cream underbelly, with eyes that appear closed as though it is asleep. There is only ever one Mamo present on the map at a given time. It sleeps within its nest and guards its pearl-like egg until it is disturbed.

Location[]

The Mamo is located in the uppermost caves under the Drop-Off, above Germ's Den. Its nest is lined with coral growths and is a fairly distinctive area.

Catching Guide[]

The Mamo is reasonably hard to catch, and under normal circumstances it will immediately attempt to snap your line if approached, unless the following steps are taken.

To catch the Mamo, you must first steal the egg that it constantly protects, and feed it to the Dragon that patrols the open water directly above its den. The player must lead the Dragon down into Mamo's den, which will scare the Mamo away from its nest (so it cannot snap the line). Then, they must quickly hook the egg, at which point the Dragon will eat it and grab onto the line. Rod upgrades such as Diving Lure (to outspeed the Dragon) and Glitterbait (to attract its attention), and a Lightbulb lure (for navigating the caves), are helpful for this step.

MamoSad

Regardless of whether or not the Dragon is caught at this point, the Mamo will eventually return, moving sluggishly and bearing a sad expression. Following this, you only need a large bait and the Mamo will behave like a normal large fish, biting the hook. The Mamo provides little to no resistance when being fished beyond this point. The Sinker upgrade and Lightbulb are needed, other rod upgrades like Flick are recommended .
