Normal: "The Yin is found in caves far from shore. It will not take the bait until it finds balance." Extinct: "The Yin was found in caves far from shore. It would not take the bait until it found balance."
Statistics[]
The Yin is a small fish with a white body and rounded black fins. Elusive and curious, it has a tendency to follow bait, but will not bite the hook unless it is swimming alongside its partner the Yang.
Location[]
The Yin is found in the open water directly west of the reef wall, far down at the point where the water becomes totally black. It is always found in a school of three, and is easy to find by simply following the reef wall down.
Catching Guide[]
The Yin and Yang will only bite the hook when they are next to each other. This is not a trivial task, as the Yin is found far east close to the reef wall and the Yang is found on the far left-hand side of the map below the Bay.
When approaching either the Yin or Yang with bait, they will begin to follow it. Unlike other fish, it is very difficult to break the attention of the Yin and Yang, and they will follow the lure indefinitely as long as it does not get too far away. The player must use this tendency to lead one school to the other, at which point they will begin circling around each other. When they are in this circling motion, they can be hooked.
You will need:
- Crankbait and Sinker rod upgrades, for avoiding the attention of fish and leading the Yin through the water.
- A Luxury Boat or better, since you need to travel between the Bay and the reef wall.
- Lightbulb lure (both Yin and Yang are found in darkness).
- Nightfall hat (not essential, but can make navigating easier as there are less small fish to avoid at night).
It may be convenient to clear the Yang's cave, because the larger fish will try and eat anything you catch as you are trying to get it out.
Note that the Yin and Yang both have very long respawn times. If you are trying for a specific one and fail to hook it, do not clear out an entire school or you will have to wait for all three of them to respawn. It is more convenient to back off until both schools have returned to their respective homes, and then try the journey again. Sometimes, the fish that you did not lead to a new location will refuse to bite. In this case, try the journey from the other direction.
